Icy Kurozo Marshland

Winter-mode unlocked: the mountain marshlands of Miyoshi! I’ve visited this spot countless times in the spring to take pictures of the waterlilies, but this year I learned it’s a popular spot for photographers in the winter, too! In particular, they brave the chilly mountains to get prism shots of ice and light, apparently! Some even return day after day--one day you’ve got snow, the next, clear, glassy ponds. Such is the nature deep in the mountains of Tokushima…
We didn’t get any prism shots this time, but there’s something hauntingly beautiful about strolling around the frozen ponds and seeing a different side of the marshland entirely.

Tips for visiting in winter:
- Make sure you have studless tires or chains!
- For access, search Kurozo Marshland on Google Maps.
- There are several routes to the marsh. We recommend going through Ikeda town, as the Deai/Iya route freezes more frequently.
- Washrooms are available even in winter, but on rare occasions the water may not be flowing or, on particularly cold days, have frozen. Keep this in mind when you visit!
