(About World Agricultural Heritage Sites)
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) recognizes areas that still utilize traditional agriculture as globally important. The target of this program is systems of agriculture, forestry and fisheries, and the landscapes that surround them. The people, food, culture, nature, and so on, is preserved as “living heritage”, while still adapting for changing times and environments. There are currently 67 regions in 22 countries around the world and 13 regions in Japan that are certified as World Agricultural Heritage Sites.
