Farm Visit Cycling Tour (with Special Hillside Bikes) – Tsurugi Town

 Tyrell is a bicycle manufacturer from Kagawa Prefecture, one of the very few such makers to originate in Shikoku. Their IVE model was specially customized for this tour, which winds through the steep-slope villages of Nishi-Awa.

To handle the steep and uneven road surfaces that are characteristic of these settlements, we’ve fitted wider handlebars that are easy to control, and thicker tires for greater stability. This is a bicycle designed not for speed, but for properly experiencing a place! Avoiding tourist spots, we’ll be following ancient roads where life thrives to this day: through paths to shrines used for generations, and riverside tracks, all while enjoying the clear mountain air. Experience Tsurugi’s “ordinary” that you can only glimpse when you slow down and shift your perspective.

Nestled in the mountains of Shikoku, Tokushima, Tsurugi Town is a place shaped by a long history of living alongside steep, rugged slopes. Its agricultural practices, developed specifically for farming on inclines, have been recognized as a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System and are still carefully passed down today.

On this tour, you’ll explore Tsurugi Town by bicycle with a local guide, visiting farmers harvesting their crops, season by season.

In early autumn, the fields are immersed in the fresh, citrusy scent of unripe yuzu. From late autumn into early winter, you’ll see the harvest of fully ripened, golden yuzu. If the timing is right, you may also come across hillsides turned white with blooming buckwheat flowers, brightening the mountain villages.

Along the way, we’ll take a break by a beautiful riverside and brew coffee, pausing to enjoy the sound of the water and the feel of the wind. These quiet moments are part of what makes this tour special.
