Experience Iya’s Local Cuisine and Culture! Hirarayaki (Honeycomb Activity)

"Hirarayaki" is Iya's local cuisine, a BBQ of miso! Iya's famous "Iwa Tofu" is the perfect match for the rich miso. Come with a group to enjoy unique Iya-style BBQ!

“Hirarayaki” is the traditional cuisine of Iya Valley, made by cooking Various foods in a bank of miso.

Locals used to make this dish by the riverside, using a large flat stone to cook the ingredients!

In this “Honeycomb Activity” (a name for one of the numerous experiences you can try in this area), instead of a large flat stone, an iron plate makes for easy cooking.

The special ingredient in this “Hirarayaki” is Iya’s delicious “Iwa Tofu”(“Iwa Tofu” means “rocky tofu” in Japanese, which means that it is harder and larger than regular tofu.), which weighs about 2 kg!

The natural sweetness of the tofu pairs perfectly with the rich miso.

At “Boke Mart”, you can also try the optional “tea grinding” experience, using a stone mortar to grind tea leaves and enjoy the freshest cup of tea you’ve ever had! This green tea, grown in the nearby mountains of Iya, is natural and delicious.
